The Utah Autism Research Program conducts research into various possible causes of autism spectrum disorders. Some of our current projects include: genetic studies utilizing the unique genealogical resources available in Utah; studies of brain development in children with autism; and studies of the immune system in autism. This research is critical to our understanding of the causes and, ultimately, the successful treatments for autism spectrum disorders. In addition to our own work, our program is part of a nationwide network of nine University-based research programs called the Collaborative Programs of Excellence in Autism. This network is funded by various departments of the National Institutes of Health, and was created to help facilitate larger studies than are possible at any single university.

A Medical Home is is not a building, house, or hospital, but rather an approach to providing comprehensive primary care. In a medical home, a pediatric clinician works in partnership with the family/patient to assure that all of the medical and non-medical needs of the patient are met. Through this partnership, the pediatric clinician can help the family/patient access and coordinate specialty care, educational services, out-of-home care, family support, and other public and private community services that are important to the overall health of the child/youth and family.
