More than 10 national autism leadership organizations have come together to form AutismCares, a nationwide disaster relief effort that will potentially assist thousands of Katrina families living with autism. To address the most immediate needs, ”AutismCares – Katrina” is coordinating support for the unique needs of families affected by autism through facilitating temporary / permanent relocation support, mobilizing specialty assistance teams and providing autism-conscious supplies directly to these families and the professionals caring for them.

Children's Care Hospital & School, based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is the state's only children's hospital. It is a private, non-profit facility licensed by the South Dakota Department of Health. Last year, Children's Care Hospital & School served over 2200 children from birth to age 21 in South Dakota and surrounding states.

Children's Special Health Services is funded through the federal Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant and state matching funds, and administered by the South Dakota Department of Health. Its goal is to improve health care services for South Dakota children with special health care needs. Pediatric specialists, the primary care physician, registered nurses, social workers, and dietitians work together to provide diagnostic, consultative, and care coordination services. This team works closely with the child's family to help them meet the child's needs. Financial assistance is also available for specified conditions and procedures on a cost-share basis according to family size and income, utilizing the federal poverty guidelines

Currently Easter Seals South Dakota serves in excess of 10,000 children and adults each year, with the number served climbing each year. Children and adults with disabilities and special needs find highest-quality services designed to meet their individual needs when they come to Easter Seals. Music Therapy Services of South Dakota provides research-based and developmentally appropriate music therapy to children and young adults with disabilities. Services range from indvidual and groups sessions, consulting to programs, workshops and inservices. Specialized music instruction is also offered. Progress Listening Center helps children with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, or ADD/ADHD by offering EnListen, the newest patented program available to improve listening, auditory processing, and sensory integration. Developed by Sound Listening Corporation who is chaired by Dr. Billie Thompson, EnListen provides families an in-home choice once the initial evaluation is done. Dr. Thompson was the pioneer who brought Tomatis to the U.S. EnListen takes the benefits of Tomatis many steps further by improving Bone Conduction interference and increasing all processing of sounds necessary to produce word sounds, body coordination and receptive language.

The Rocky Mountain Disability & Business Technical is one of 10 regional centers funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), a division of the U.S. Department of Education. Our mission is to provide technical assistance, materials, training, and referrals on the Americans with Disabilities Act and on accessible education-based information technology. Our region covers the states of Colorado, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
