More than 10 national autism leadership organizations have come together to form AutismCares, a nationwide disaster relief effort that will potentially assist thousands of Katrina families living with autism. To address the most immediate needs, ”AutismCares – Katrina” is coordinating support for the unique needs of families affected by autism through facilitating temporary / permanent relocation support, mobilizing specialty assistance teams and providing autism-conscious supplies directly to these families and the professionals caring for them.

We provide support for families, teachers and community service providers who interact with individuals on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. These services include behavioral interventions, Applied Behavior Analysis, Components of an effective classroom, staff training, building peer relationships, social skills training and play groups.

We provide a comprehensive behavior therapy program for children with autism and related disorders based on scientifically validated principles of applied behavior analysis. Our program is specifically designed to meet each child’s needs, endeavors to respect the dignity and worth of each child, promote each child’s capabilities, and expand each child’s opportunities to function in as normative an environment as possible. We emphasize functional assessments, parent involvement, and social and peer interaction. Our program consists of providing a variety of specific behavior therapy techniques, including but not limited to prompting, fading, positive and differential reinforcement, instructional support, and discrete trial training. Parents are considered integral members of our treatment team; we emphasize close coordination with other providers and funding sources, as well as parent training and support.

HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. PRIMARY SERVICES PROVIDED: Local support group where parents can come together to share experiences and feelings with one another. EDUCATION: Programs are developed to educate families & professionals on child and adolescent neurobiological, emotional, or behavioral differences. The programs address a range of issues which families face in the home. In addition to educational services and available community resources, we provide information on meetings, seminars, specific disorders, and the most recent research findings. RESOURCE LIBRARY: Library of books, pamphlets, brochures, videos and other information is available to parents and professionals. Progress Listening Center helps children with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, or ADD/ADHD by offering EnListen, the newest patented program available to improve listening, auditory processing, and sensory integration. Developed by Sound Listening Corporation who is chaired by Dr. Billie Thompson, EnListen provides families an in-home choice once the initial evaluation is done. Dr. Thompson was the pioneer who brought Tomatis to the U.S. EnListen takes the benefits of Tomatis many steps further by improving Bone Conduction interference and increasing all processing of sounds necessary to produce word sounds, body coordination and receptive language.
