| Autism Speaks | |

| Tel:(212) 252-8584 New York, NY 10016 |
Autism Speaks is dedicated to helping families find answers, through funding research and education efforts and, most significantly, by spearheading the development of a national registry of autism patients. The lack of such a registry makes research all the more difficult and costly. We are committed to assembling a significant central database of children with autism that will provide, for the first time, the standardized medical records that researchers need to conduct accurate clinical trials. We believe this will facilitate the large-scale studies and clinical trials that will improve the effectiveness of treatment and eventually help lead us to a cure.

I am proud to announce that as of January 1, 2008 I will be opening a private practice offering a range of services to families and children. I am a licensed New York State Psychologist with special training in Developmental Psychology. I will be offering developmentally-based therapy and preventive intervention for children at risk for psychological, behavioral, and psycho-educational issues. I have particular expertise in working with families who have children with challenges to their capacities for relating and communicating, in particular children on the autism spectrum. My mission is to be a resource for families. I offer assessment, intervention, consultation, and educational support services. I strive to assist families in learning to identify their child’s most prominent needs and addressing them in the most efficient way. I know that services for families are often very diverse and at times difficult to access or coordinate. I strive to help children and families to maximize the effectiveness of any intervention by fully assessing and accounting for all of the strengths of the child and family and being sure these are integral in the intervention approach. I am trained in DIR®/Floortime© approaches to working with children on or at risk of being on the Autism Spectrum. I also collaborate with occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and special educators, as well as school psychologists who are able to offer these services. In addition, I have worked with colleagues who can integrate behavioral approaches into a therapeutic plan, as well. I have worked at United Cerebral Palsy Association, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, and Blythedale Children’s Hospital. I completed fellowship training at Westchester Institute for Human Development where I participated in the LEND program, a program funded by the US Health and Human Services Department and sponsored by the Association of University Centers for Developmental Disabilities.

The Facilitated Communication Institute conducts research, training, and public education designed to expand opportunities for people with disabilities to be heard and to participate fully in society. Faculty, staff and students at Syracuse University founded the Institute in 1992; its purpose is to focus attention on individuals with developmental disabilities who have traditionally been silenced as a result of their own communication disabilities and by social policy and human service practices that ignore their communication potential. Facilitated Communication is an alternative means of expression for people who cannot speak or whose speech is highly limited (echoed, limited to one or a few word utterances) and who cannot point reliably.
