They hire their own staff and pay them at the wages the individual deserves. They can supplement their lives within their families or while in a group home with activities and programs within the community. Individuals who are self-determined are in control!

The Livingston County Youth Bureau was established in 1978 and is a department of County government. The Commission on Quality of Care for the Mentally Disabled serves people with mental disabilities and their families by providing independent oversight of the quality and cost-effectiveness of services provided by all mental hygiene programs in New York State. It administers five federal formula grant programs through which it provides legal and non-legal advocacy services to persons with disabilities to assist them in obtaining the services and protections of federal and state laws.
