Creative Potential Program at the Autism Center

Center-based behavioral therapy that incorporates speech & language pathology!
Are you tired of staff turnover, unqualified and uncaring therapeutic staff support in your home? Do you wonder how your child is supposed to develop social skills while interacting only with adults in your home? Our new center-based services will offer your child access to a unique program designed by masters level therapists and staffed by professionals who will provide a continuum of care geared specifically to your child. You can count on low staff turnover, and high quality. Created by a parent, a speech and language pathologist and a behavior specialist, this program will meet your child's needs for interaction and communication.
What is Creative Potential?
Creative Potential is an affordable, private pay, center-based behavioral health program offered by the Autism Center of Pittsburgh. Designed as a therapeutic program for children with autism spectrum disorders. Creative Potential will include Speech/Language and with emphasis on behavior, compliance, cognition and speech and language deficits in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders.
This highly-structured, intensive program will center on social and behavioral deficits in the child through the use of both structured activities combined with Speech Therapy from a qualified Master's level speech therapist, making this program unique and completely comprehensive. Not only will this program address deficits in behavior and compliance, but skills will be taught and modeled through the use of speech and communication skills.
In addition, children with a lack of pragmatic and social speech will have the ability to interact with other children with the consultation of a Speech/Language Pathologist to increase not only social skills, but pragmatic speech skills as well while addressing compliance and behavior issues.
Parent Involvement:
Because we are parents ourselves, we understand the need for parental involvement. We understand that parents want detailed information on how their children are progressing, how they are interacting, and what they can do at home to carry over the skills learned at Creative Potential. We will work on a one to one basis with each family to keep them informed of their child’s interactions and progress.
Details
The Creative Potential program will be held during school hours on weekdays for younger children who are on wraparound waiting lists or whose families prefer stability and quality in therapeutic interventions.
Parents must bring their children to the Center, where they will be treated by staff members in enjoyable activities with peers. What’s different about us? Because this program is private-pay, we can afford to pay our therapists more, attracting a better quality and more stable staff base. No more revolving door!! Your child will finally receive the stability and consistency that he or she desperately needs.
Ratio:
The ratio of children to staff will be 3:1. A BSC trained in both play therapy and Applied Behavior Analysis will be present at all times, in addition to consultative services with a highly-trained, Master's level speech and language pathologist. Your family will meet with staff prior to beginning Creative Potential to target all areas of core deficit. Progress notes and data will be taken and shared with family to show improvements or areas of concern. Our staff will be available to you on a regular basis to discuss your child’s needs. There will be no more than six children per 2 hour session.
Cost:
The cost per child for Creative Potential will be only $275/month. We feel that this is an affordable amount for most families while still giving the Autism Center of Pittsburgh the ability to provide quality services. Your child can make significant progress, have little turnover and you’ll have less disruption in your own home for a nominal fee. Courses will begin in October, 2008 and will run for four weeks.
What’s more? Because this program is private pay, if you choose, you can still have TSS in your own home.
