Support and Treatment for Autism and Related Disorders (STAR), Inc. provides a full array of behavioral services for children, their families, and schools. STAR provides services to children with disorders usually first diagnosed in infancy, childhood, or adolescence. This includes the treatment of Communication disorders, Pervasive Developmental Disorders (i.e., Autism, Asperger’s), and Disruptive Behavior Disorders. STAR utilizes Applied Behavior Analytic approaches to intervention. These intervention approaches include Discrete Trial Training, Pivotal Response Training, Functional Behavioral Assessment, Picture Exchange Communication Systems, Positive Behavior Supports, and Self-Management strategies. The array of STAR services aims to provide a continuum of support to children, families, and schools that respond to their changing needs across time.
The STAR service array for school age children includes intensive behavioral intervention, social skills instruction, parent education and support, school consultation and individualized program development, provision of ABA trained instructional assistants, classroom wide interventions, teacher and paraprofessional trainings, inclusion support, functional behavioral assessments, and positive behavior support plans.
Each student’s program is designed to develop functional skills and resolve problem behaviors that will promote their independence and allow them to participate in the least restrict environment (LRE). Generalization of new skills is addressed through parent education, school consultation, and contextualized behavior supports delivered across relevant home, school, and community settings.
