Ivy Hill Foundation is dedicated to utilizing the equine experience to build pathways to personal growth,
strengthen family relationships and broaden community integration for individuals with special needs.
Ivy Hill's program for our autistic population and their families is 'Pieces of Freedom,' a therapeutic riding program that focuses on the unique needs of our riders with mild to moderate/severe autism. Therapeutic riding, also known as Equine-Assisted Therapy, Equine-Facilitated Therapy, or Riding for the Disabled, is the use of the horse and equine-based activities to reach the specific objectives of our special needs population. We advocate inclusion, acceptance, celebration and support for our client/family
community. Fifty-seven percent of our clients and their families/caregivers live in the autism spectrum.
The horse becomes partner and therapeutic tool in achieving a variety of goals that are cognitive, physical, social, educational and behavioral. Our PATH-certified instructors motivate our riders utilizing the barn experience and the joy of the horse/human connection. The combination of grounded horsemanship skills and mounted riding lessons creates a challenge that inspires confidence, encourages independence and builds trust and communication. Sessions are 30-50 minutes and can be scheduled for once a week or bi-weekly.
